Step one

Get your export from Polarsteps

  1. Ask for your dataIn the Polarsteps app or on polarsteps.com, open Settings, then Privacy, then "Download your data".
  2. Wait for the emailPolarsteps emails you a link to one file, user_data.zip, for your whole account. It usually arrives within 24 to 72 hours.
  3. Come back hereDrop that file below to see what it holds, or sign up first and drop it straight into your studio.

Step two

See what you would bring over

Nothing you drop below is uploaded anywhere. It is read in this page, in your own browser, and thrown away the moment you close the tab.

Your file never leaves this browser.

What comes over

  • Every trip you choose, with each step's own text kept exactly as you wrote it
  • One draft day per date that has steps, in the order they happened
  • Your photos and videos, attached to the right day
  • Your GPS route, kept private — never shown as raw positions, only as the same clipped line a recorded route gets
  • Weather Polarsteps recorded for a step, labelled as coming from Polarsteps

What does not come over

  • Comments other people left on your trip
  • Your followers and buddies
  • Full-resolution photographs — a Polarsteps export holds compressed copies, not your originals

Everything arrives as drafts in your studio. Nothing is published, and nobody but you sees it, until you say so.

Coming from somewhere else?

FindPenguins, Journi or another app

There is no structured import for FindPenguins or Journi yet. Bring your photos and your GPS track (a GPX file, if the app can export one) through the studio's own import, and write each day yourself from there — it takes a little more of your own time to set up, but everything still arrives as a draft you write and keep.

Questions and answers

Will my old Polarsteps trips really come over?

Yes, as draft trips: one day per date that has steps, each step's own text kept as you wrote it, with its photos and videos attached. Nothing is published until you say so.

How long does the Polarsteps export take?

Polarsteps usually emails the download link within 24 to 72 hours of asking for it in Settings → Privacy → Download your data.

Is my export file uploaded anywhere?

No. The preview above reads it entirely in your own browser and never sends it anywhere. The studio's own import works the same way.

What happens to my GPS history?

It is stored privately and never shown as raw positions — the public map only ever gets the same clipped, derived line a recorded route gets.

Does this import FindPenguins or Journi trips?

Not yet with a structured import. Bring their photos and a GPS track through the studio instead, and write each day yourself.

Is anything published automatically?

No. Every imported trip and day arrives as a draft. Publishing is a separate step only you can take.
