First morning in Bangkok
Landed at six, asleep by eight, awake at three in the morning entirely convinced it was lunchtime. By the time it actually was lunchtime we had been walking for four hours and eaten twice.
The heat is not the thing people warn you about. The thing is the noise, and how quickly you stop hearing it.
Across the river on the wrong boat
Meant to take the orange-flag ferry two stops and took the blue-flag one instead, which is for tourists and costs four times as much. We worked it out when the commentary started.
Got off in Thonburi anyway and walked back over the bridge. Every photograph is of the wrong side of the river and better for it.
Still awake, still hot
The street outside the guesthouse does its best trade at eleven at night, and we have stopped pretending we are going to sleep through it.
Second dinner, eaten standing up. No photographs: the phone was flat by nine and neither of us went back for the charger.
